How to read a forex or crypto price chart

Start with the symbol, its quote currency and the chart timeframe. EURUSD expresses the euro in US dollars; BTCUSD expresses bitcoin in US dollars. A candlestick summarises the opening, high, low and closing price for its interval. A five-minute candle and a daily candle answer different questions, so choose a timeframe that matches the decision you are reviewing. Indicators describe past price behaviour and can give conflicting readings.

Gold trading: XAUUSD and contract size

XAUUSD commonly represents gold quoted in US dollars, but the size of a lot or CFD contract is defined by the broker. Do not assume that one lot of gold has the same value as one forex lot or one bitcoin. Check the contract specification, tick value, spread and overnight financing before estimating a possible loss. News about interest rates, inflation or the US dollar can coincide with price changes without proving their cause.

Support, resistance and price confirmation

Support and resistance mark areas where price previously reacted; they are not guaranteed turning points. A breakout can fail, spreads may widen and a stop order may execute beyond its requested price. Compare price levels with market conditions and a defined risk limit rather than treating an indicator as an instruction. These public charts are analytical tools and do not place orders.
